Things To Do At Southern Halt & The Surrounding Area
Although it’s a small village, Dobwalls and its neighbouring towns have plenty of picturesque sights for travellers. Miles away from the sea, you’ll be able to appreciate Cornwall’s natural beauty in all its glory. The lands are filled with dramatic moors, sprawling meadows, and ancient rock formations. If you can pull yourself away from your cosy lodge, here are some spots worth visiting:
Take a walk to Golitha Falls
Set across the scenic woodland of Draynes Wood, the Golitha Falls is a series of cascades and waterfalls which are part of the River Fowey. You can take one of the established trails and explore the woods or observe the wildlife. It’s highly recommended to bring your camera as there are plenty of scenic sights that are worth capturing.
Check out King Doniert’s Stone
If you fancy a bit of history, then you must pay a visit to King Doniert’s Stone. It’s a historical landmark located near St. Cleer in Bodmin Moor. The landmark consists of two pieces of a cross which can be traced as far back as the ninth century. There’s also an inscription dedicated to Dungarth, King of Cornwall, who unfortunately drowned in 875. The stone has stood since then, outlasting the monarch it was originally built for.
Visit the mystical Dozmary Pool
Dozmary Pool is a lake that’s also located in Bodmin Moor. The area is incredibly peaceful with bursts of mists appearing even during the summertime. Surrounded by grassland and quiet waters, it’s a place for contemplation and relaxation. Feel free to enjoy the views or get wrapped up in the folklore surrounding the mystical Dozmary. It can also get pretty chilly at night and some might even dare say – spooky!
