Fishing In The Cotswolds
With a region as beautiful and broad as the Cotswolds, you’ll never run out of fishing spots. This popular tourist destination is famous for its varied habitats including its long list of ponds, rivers, and lakes. Another advantage when fishing in the area is that most of its spots are closed waters which means you can fish any time of the year. On the other hand, you’ll have to abide by the seasons when river fishing. Nevertheless, the Cotswolds is an incredible location where you can spend your fishing getaway. Here are several favourite spots from seasoned anglers:
Ashton Keynes Angling Club
The Ashton Keynes Angling Club is a membership club from Cotswold Water Park. The latter contains more than a hundred lakes and numerous leisure facilities. If you have an annual membership, you’ll get exclusive access to fishing spots and private fishing pegs. Members also have dibs on Lake 32, the area’s largest lake, where they can catch species of bream. The club is particularly active from autumn until winter thanks to the increasing popularity of pike fishing!
Bibury Trout Farm
Birbury Trout Farm is England’s oldest working trout farm located in the quaint village of Birbury. Since its opening in 1902, the farm has served as a popular fishing spot for novice and experienced anglers, as well as a must-visit location for family holidays. The farm consists of multiple lakes spanning over 15 acres of landscaped grounds where guests can try their hand at trout fishing. It’s also open daily all year round so you can visit anytime. The best part is that the farm is pet-friendly as long as you keep your dogs on the lead!
Horcott Lakes
Horcott Lakes is a fishing lake found in the historical town of Fairford. The lake network consists of three main lakes with the biggest one spanning over 20 acres. Horcott is quite well-known around the Cotswolds for producing some of the best-looking carp in the region. In fact, one of the biggest carp ever caught in the area weighed more than 40 pounds. Fishing is extremely popular during the summer, especially with the idyllic backdrop of the Cotswolds!
Horseshoe Lake Fishery
Horseshoe Lake Fishery is a fishing lake situated on the outskirts of Lechlade. In case you didn’t know, the 62-acre lake was once a gravel pit but was transformed into the natural attraction you know today. According to seasoned anglers, the lake is famous for its diverse quality of carp and bream. If you want to catch your own, locals would recommend using corn or pink baits. The fishery also has amenities to ensure that guests are comfortable and well-equipped. Feel free to check out their tackle shop, cafe, and showers!
Ham Pool Lake
Ham Pool Lake is an exclusive fishing lake within the village of South Cerney in the Cotswolds. The area is owned and managed by the South Cerney Angling Club, but the membership is definitely worth it. Ham Pool is known for its scenic countryside, lush lily pads, and its eight-acre lake containing an abundance of carp, bream, and trouts. The waters are well-stocked and even welcome some chubs in recent years. Members also have access to the onsite clubhouse and bar. It’s the perfect place to fish, relax, and socialise with friends!
Lemington Lakes
Lemington Lakes is another member-only fishing spot located in Moreton-in-Marsh. The residential park boasts 60 acres of parklands, three fishing lakes, and multiple ponds for breeding fish. Since it’s an exclusive area, members can expect total privacy during their nature excursions. Lemington is also a great location for woodland walks and rural retreats thanks to its remote atmosphere!
